Equipments - Trekking in Nepal

Camping and mountaineering equipments used by Sherpas, other trekkers, and climbers on Himalayan expeditions is often available for sale or rent in Kathmandu, Pokhara and Namche Bazaar and some other towns in the hills. Much of it is new gear unused on expeditions. While much of it is designed for climbing, a lot of equipments are suitable for trekking as well. Prices vary from cheap to outrageous, and the quality is not uniform. Some trekkers sale their equipments after their treks by means of notices in restaurant and hotels. Packs, jackets and many other items are locally manufactured (not under license), complete with foreign label. Such gear might last one trek. Some people are able to pick up everything that need in the city, but it is safer to come at least minimally prepared.

If you don’t own items such as good down sleeping bags, jackets, foam pads, and packs, or if you have other travel that make it difficult to bring your own equipment, plan to rent. It is not advisable to rent footwear, so do bring your own shoes and boots, first wearing them at home to break them in before they “break you” on the trial.

Please take note that the following list of equipment is essential while packing for this trek. Adjustments to this list can be made according to your needs, interests, duration of stay etc. You will find variety of the listed gear for sale in Kathmandu. You will also find very high quality branded gear in some of the international stores in Kathmandu. And do not forget to bring some leisure clothes for your stay in Kathmandu.
